YOUR NEXT COURSE: CITB - Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)
First Aid For Mental Health is the initial help and support given to a person who may be developing a mental health problem (including a substance use problem), experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis.
First Aiders for Mental Health are trained staff who can offer the initial help and support when problems have been recognised or if they have been approached, ultimately they will help the sufferer access the help and support they need to deal with their problems by helping to access medical interventions or signposting them to organisations and charities set up to deal with various types of mental health issues.
Importantly, Mental Health First Aiders are not trained mental health practitioners, in a similar way that conventional first aiders are not paramedics or doctors.
